(Baton Rouge) — Local breast cancer survivors were honored by the office staff of Louisiana Hematology Oncology Associates (LHOA) and its physicians: Drs. Frederic T. Billings, III; Bryan J. Bienvenu; David S. Hanson; Judd E. Patten; Derrick W. Spell; and Kellie D. Schmeeckle. The “Celebration of Breast Cancer Survivors” event was held at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge hotel Wednesday, October 5. More than 250 people were in attendance.

The registration table, hosted by LHOA employees, was adorned with pink flowers. Each survivor was given a pink ribbon pin and bracelet representing breast cancer awareness. Inside, tables were accented with additional pink floral arrangements in Eiffel tower vases and pink boxes were stacked atop one another with flowers placed on top as the centerpieces.

Guest were welcomed by Dr. Derrick Spell who encouraged everyone to enjoy the swing music from the 1940s, the array of hot hors d’oeuvres and the piece de resistance – Coldwater Creek fashions modeled by LHOA patients. The women enjoyed all the pre-show pampering and appreciated Merle Norman in Zachary doing their makeup. They vamped down the runway showing off fall ensembles and accessories to the commentary of Coldwater Creek’s stylist.

Dr. Schmeeckle closed the program by thanking the guests for attending and supporting patients and survivors of this serious disease while enjoying a lovely evening.
